About this state
Tasik Kenyir in Terengganu is one of Southeast Asia’s largest man-made lakes, dotted with forested islands, hidden waterfalls and houseboat stays. Formed by a hydroelectric dam, it has become an eco-tourism gateway into inland rainforest.
The lake’s character is quiet freshwater wilderness—misty mornings, fishing villages and boat-hopping between coves. Allow overnight if possible, book boat packages with licensed operators, and pack for heat by day and cooler evenings on the water.
If you want Terengganu beyond islands and markets, Kenyir’s wide water and forest islands deliver a different, inland rhythm.
