Kek Lok Si Temple
极乐寺
Kek Lok Si Temple is the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia and an iconic landmark of Penang. Built against a lush hillside, it features a 36.5-meter bronze Guanyin statue and the Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas. The temple’s prestige is highlighted by its imperial treasures: the Grand Hall houses the "Qin Ci Le Shan Hao Shi" plaque bestowed by Emperor Guangxu, while the entrance is graced with Empress Dowager Cixi’s "Hai Tian Fu Di" calligraphy; during the Lunar New Year, the entire sanctuary is illuminated by tens of thousands of lanterns, creating a radiant spectacle.
